English Program

English (7-10)

Focused support in reading, writing, comprehension, and analysis aligned to secondary English demands. Programs develop students’ ability to respond to texts, construct clear and structured written responses, and express ideas with confidence. Emphasis is placed on analytical thinking, essay structure, language techniques, and building the literacy skills required for senior English subjects.

Mathematics Program

Mathematics (7-10)

Targeted support across core mathematical concepts, including number, algebra, measurement, and problem-solving. Teaching prioritises conceptual understanding, mathematical reasoning, and application rather than rote methods. Programs support students in building accuracy, confidence, and the foundations required for senior Mathematics pathways.

Accelerated Programs

Accelerated Programs (Preliminary & HSC Foundations)

Designed for capable students seeking extension or early exposure to senior content. Accelerated programs introduce Preliminary and HSC-level concepts in a structured and supported way, strengthening subject understanding, academic writing, and independent learning skills. This pathway supports students aiming to build confidence, reduce senior-year pressure, and unlock higher-level academic performance.

Our English Specialisation

English is the only subject that is compulsory for all students in Years 11 and 12, and it is always included in the ATAR calculation, regardless of which English course a student studies. This means English performance plays a central role in a student’s final results and post-school options.

For many students, the transition from junior to senior English is one of the most challenging shifts in high school. Senior English places significantly greater emphasis on independent reading, sophisticated textual analysis, sustained written responses, and academic language. Students are expected to engage with complex texts, develop original interpretations, and write with clarity, structure, and control under exam conditions.

The HSC English course is also content-heavy, with students sitting two major exams and completing five separate sections, each requiring extended written responses. For students who have not been explicitly prepared for this level of rigour, the jump in expectations can feel overwhelming.

At ACADEMIA, we believe senior English success begins well before Year 11.

From Years 7–10, we deliberately prepare students for senior English by introducing senior-level texts, ideas, and analytical approaches in a structured and supported way. Students are taught how to analyse texts deeply, construct sophisticated written responses, and develop the academic voice required for senior assessments.

Where possible, and when schools’ programs are available, we guide students towards the exact texts they will study in the coming years, reducing the shock of unfamiliar material in Year 11 and 12. This allows students to build familiarity, confidence, and critical thinking skills ahead of time.

Across the junior years, our students are taught, marked, and given feedback using senior-level expectations, ensuring the transition into Preliminary and HSC English feels progressive rather than abrupt. The result is students who enter senior school equipped, confident, and academically prepared, not reactive or overwhelmed.

Program Rate
Paid upfront for the 10-week term. Cancelled sessions with notice are credited for a catch-up lesson at a mutually convenient time.

Casual Rate
Pay weekly with flexibility (direct debited). Sessions can be cancelled with notice at no charge, but are not rescheduled.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this just homework help?

Not at all. While we may support students with schoolwork, our focus is on building understanding, skills, and independence rather than simply completing homework or tasks.

How do parents stay informed?

Parents receive weekly feedback, free learning guides, semesterly reports, and an annual parent–tutor meeting. Communication is designed to keep parents informed without creating extra pressure.

Do you support students who are struggling as well as those needing extension?

Yes. We work with students across a wide range of abilities, including those who need additional support and those seeking extension or enrichment. Teaching is personalised to ensure appropriate challenge without overwhelm.

Are classes online or in-person?

We offer both online and in-person sessions. Delivery mode is discussed during the assessment process and selected based on the student’s needs, subject focus, and learning preferences.

Do you support children with additional learning needs?

Yes. We welcome children with diverse learning needs, including learning differences, neurodivergence, and physical or emotional needs that affect learning. Adjustments are discussed during the assessment process to ensure a supportive and positive experience.

How often are classes?

Our classes are usually delivered at a weekly level. Some students may benefit from more than one session per week, depending on their learning needs and goals.

How do I know which program is right for my child?

Program placement is based on developmental readiness rather than age. We offer a free assessment to understand your child’s current skills, confidence, and learning needs, and recommend the most suitable starting point. Children may move between or combine programs as they develop.

When can we enrol?

Enrolments are open year-round, subject to availability and assessment.

Do you offer 1:1 or small group sessions?

We offer both individual and small group sessions, depending on the program and what best supports your child’s learning.

What should students bring to sessions?

All learning materials are provided. From Year 3 onwards, we recommend that students bring an iPad or tablet to sessions to align with school learning practices and support the development of digital literacy and technology proficiency. Students may also bring a labelled water bottle or relevant school materials if required for the session. Any additional requirements will be clearly communicated in advance.
